When Rob first came to see me, he had been separated for more than 3 years, and no longer had contact with his children. This was affecting every aspect of his life.
Rob says:
“I’d been separated for more than 3 years and had seen a couple of counselling professionals in that time, but didn’t feel that they really helped me identify then deal with my situation and issues. I was frustrated about my lack of any means of communication with my children and was effectively treading water with most things in my life as a result. I felt down and helpless, as I felt I had tried everything but gotten nowhere. The biggest initial benefit Claire provided was a way of me seeing that most things in my life were actually really good, albeit the one very major thing (communication with my children) was not good. The next big step was helping me understand that while I can’t influence that situation much, I can control how I feel about it, and I can look forward and make plans for the future rather than sit around and wait helplessly for things to change.I think the 2 big a-ha moments were when we worked through the Wheel of my Life I realised that in doing things for myself I not only naturally felt better about myself but I also starting focusing on the future. One early realisation was that while I may not be able to change some things, I can change how they affect me.The biggest shift has been my focus on moving forward. I will always try to reach out to the children and hope that they will one day realise I am always here for them, but I’m getting on with things with a really positive outlook and growing confidence. I enjoyed working with Claire and looked forward to my appointments with her. She was very balanced and helped me see things, and see myself, in a different way to how I had done previously.Claire has helped me and I’ve no doubt she can help others with their challenges. I have already recommended her to others.”
